Shiney: Dental Assistant |
Hi! My name is Shiney Matsikas, and I am the Hygienist at Highlands
Dental Center. I am also currently working on my BSc. at the
University of Alberta. I love spending time with my family and
friends, traveling, learning about other cultures and the World
around us and, of course, CHOCOLATE!
Shiney's Dental Tip:
Plaque is the soft, yellow-ish white build up of bacteria
that forms on your teeth. It is best removed by brushing with
toothpaste and flossing with dental floss twice a day. Over time, if
the plaque is not removed, it will harden and become tartar. Tartar can only be effectively removed through a professional cleaning by
your Dentist or Dental Hygienist, and it is important to remove this
hardened concentration of bacteria before they cause cavities on your
teeth.
Everyone forms tartar at a different rate; a professional cleaning
should be done at least every 12 months to ensure proper health of
your teeth and gums, and if you build tartar quickly, you should come
in even sooner.
So, book your next cleaning today, and we'll see you soon! Remember
to brush and floss regularly between your cleaning appointments!
